Things to do at Easter in LondonEaster Traditions in EnglandThere are so many things to do at Easter in London!

London parks are full of daffodils and spring flowers and children eagerly await the Easter Egg Hunts and chocolate eggs which are given on Easter Sunday.

This four day religious festival is seen mainly as a time to relax and have fun and children and adults enjoy visiting museums, art galleries, the theatre or the cinema.

At this time of year, restaurants all over London can get very full, so it's a good idea to book well in advance.

Easter Traditions

Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday) which this year falls on 16 February 2010, is the day before Ash Wednesday and the last day before Lent which ends on Easter Sunday. Many people celebrate this day by making pancakes and having pancake races. Lent is a period of fasting, so before the period begins, many indulge in a tasty pancake or two!

Throughout the Easter period Hot Cross Buns are eaten (buns with a cinnamon flavor white spicy cross on top) and Simnel cake is another traditional cake with the eleven balls of marzipan on top representing the eleven apostles, excluding Judas. The cake was originally made to mark Mothering Sunday and then carried over for Easter.
