Canary Islands Holidays-things to do

Canary Island holidays are popular throughout the year, but are especially popular now for last minute holiday and winter holiday in the Sun.  Located just off the coast of Africa, benefit theCanary islands of year round sunshine.  There are a total of 13 Islands but the most popular include Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and La Palma.canary islands holidays

Each island has its own characteristics, but we have compiled a list below of some of the ideas of things to see and do in the Canary Islands.

MONS-TEIDE NATIONAL PARK-TENERIFE

The Teide National Park was declared a World Heritage Site in 2007 and includes the highest mountain Teide mountain, that a staggering 12, 98 m high. An extinct volcano, the Summit can be reached by cable car and offers a magnificent view on the island from the top!

WATER SPORTS-WINDSURFING & KITESURFING-FUERTEVENTURA

Fuerteventura has more than 150 golden beaches to choose from, many of which are ideal for a spot of windsurfing or kitesurfing. World Windsurfing competitions are held each year on the beach here.

Tenerife has a lively nightlife centered around Playa de Las Americas, but it also means that Carnival every year worth a visit.  The main Carnival in February and March – the most famous is the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival in February.

VOLCANOES – CALDERA DE TABURIENTE, LA PALMA

Caldera de Taburiente is one of the largest and most fertile volcanic craters in the world. Hiking is popular here, with a lot of people visit Mirador de la Cumbrecita with the beautiful view on La Palma, nicknamed "the beautiful island". It is also worth the charming capital city of La Palma, Santa Cruz.

NATURE RESERVES – TIMANFAYA NATIONAL PARK-LANZAROTE

The landscape here is created by a volcanic eruption that about a third of the island of Lanzarote.  Described as 'martian ' in appearance, timanfaya National Park is a very hot geothermal area and a fantastic place of interest to visit. Expect to feel the heat of the dormant volcano here if you are a walking tour.

SHOPPING-COSTA TEGUISE-LANZAROTE

A tourist resort on the island of Lanzarote Costa Teguise is popular with leisure travellers from the UK.  About ten minutes ' drive from Teguise, the picturesque colonial style former capital of the Costa Teguise Lanzarote offers many of the usual shops from a tourist resort would expect.   However, for a more authentic experience, visit to the old capital Teguise on a Sunday and you can enjoy the hustle and bustle of a popular Sunday market in full swing.

ART – THE ATTRACTIONS OF CESAR MANRIQUE-LANZAROTE

Cesar Manrique, the famous local artist from Lanzarote was a sculptor, painter and architect and had a great influence on modern art in the area.  He also convinced the loval Government to not allow the construction of tall buildings, so the conservation of the beauty of the island.   There are several tourist attractions on his work, including Jameos del Agua and Jardin de cactus detailing.

SIGHTSEEING-LAS PALMAS-GRAN CANARIA

Las Palmas is the capital of Gran Canaria and is located between two bays.  A great place for sightseeing, Las Palmas has cobbled streets, a beautiful beach, noble mansions, the Casa de Colón, Columbus House, Pueblo Canario, museums, Cathedral and market, plus 122 miles of coastline if sightseeing is not your thing!
