Easter is celebrated in England in the Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox religions. In England, Ash Wednesday is the beginning of lent and so Pancake Day is always held on Tuesday as it has the last day before the lent begins for fasting.


In France is called this day Mardi Gras that translated as FAT Tuesday, and in the Greek Orthodox Church, fasting officially begins on Green Monday in Cyprus and Clean Monday in Greece, if not on a Wednesday in the United Kingdom.


This year the Orthodox Easter falls on the same day as that of the Catholic and Protestant Easter. It is often taken on another day, such as the dates are arranged on the Julian calendar.


Easter Eggs represent the rebirth of Christ and are often red to indicate of the blood of Christ, when he was crucified on the cross. In Newcastle and many places in the North of England, Greece, Cyprus and many other European countries it is customary to tap the hard-boiled eggs against each other. The one with the egg that didn't break is the winner.


Easter hot cross buns food many people celebrate the end of lent on Easter Sunday with Roasted Turkey or lamb and simnel had cake which is made from Marzipan, fruit and spices.


The origin of this delicious cake is said to have been started as daughters in the cake service for maternity Sunday baked.


Hot Cross Buns are marked with a white cross cinammon taste and eaten during Easter. They sold in bakeries and shops and very easy to make.


Easter ParadeThe Easter Parade in Battersea Park in London is one of the most popular. As with all Easter processions, many Easter hats worn by the ladies.


Oxford and Cambridge boat RaceThis annual event between Oxford and Cambridge University students is always part of the Easter period and this year will be held on Saturday, 3 april 2010. The race includes 4 miles from Putney Bridge and finishing at Chiswick Bridge.
